Obituary


Ronald R. Iske was born March 26, 1932 and entered into rest on March 12, 2017 surrounded by family after a battle with PMR and lung cancer. Ron grew up in Springfield, NE where he graduated from high school in 1949 and served in the Korean War as an Air Force pilot. He was united in marriage to Katherine Iske on August 10, 1957. Ronald R. Iske was born March 26, 1932 and entered into rest on March 12, 2017 surrounded by family after a battle with PMR and lung cancer. Ron grew up in Springfield, NE where he graduated from high school in 1949 and served in the Korean War as an Air Force pilot. He was united in marriage to Katherine Iske on August 10, 1957. The couple made their home in Gretna, NE where Ron served as a US Postal Service rural letter carrier for 38 years. In addition, Ron starting farming in 1964 and built a family home where he and Kathy raised five children. He was a member of Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church, Centennial Model T Club, Omaha Region Horseless Carriage Club, Gretna American Legion Post #216 for over 50 years, Rural Letter Carrier organization for 60 years, and Disabled American Veteran lifetime member. He enjoyed fishing, restoring his 1924 Model T Coupe, tinkering on the farm, polka dancing, telling stories, feeding wildlife, and flying kites.



Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Libby Iske; brothers Carl (Carol) Iske, John Iske; grandson, Thomas Iske; daughter-in-law, Diane Iske; brothers-in-law, Herb Schnack, Jim Thompson, Bill Gaebel, and Jim Webster.



He is survived by his loving wife, Katherine Iske; brothers, Gerald (Marilyn) Iske of Omaha, NE; and Harold (Sherry) Iske of Omaha, NE; sisters, Bernice Schnack of Gretna, NE; Janice Thompson of Omaha, NE; Shirley Gaebel of Louisville, NE; Donna (Dick) Grube of Papillion, NE; Carolyn Webster of Omaha, NE; and sister-in-law, Marsha Iske of Doniphan, NE. He also leaves to celebrate his life, five children: Ron Iske of Omaha, AK; Jim Iske of Gretna, NE; Nancy Iske of Gretna, NE; Cindy (Steve) Moore of Gretna, NE; and Doug (Emily) Iske of Syracuse, NE. Fourteen grandchildren: Justin, Alicia, Ben, Megan, Elisebeth, Olivia, Ronald, Michael, Jennifer, J.D., Jamie, Ashley, Kyle, and Cooper. Twelve great grandchildren: Trenton, Destiny, Gracie, Sawyer, Aiden, Lane, Thomas, Penelope, Wyatt, MacKenzie, Addison, Mallet, and many extended family members and friends.



A memorial has been established in Ron’s honor and will be designated at a later date.



VISITATION: Saturday, March 18, 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church, 153 S. McKenna Ave., Gretna.
